Kosmos. Galaktyka Smaku: A Dog-Friendly Café in Warsaw’s Kabaty
There aren’t many cafés where you can sit down for a coffee with a dog. So I was pleased to discover one in Warsaw’s Ursynów district. It’s called Kosmos. Galaktyka Smaku and is located at 26 Komisji Edukacji Narodowej Avenue (KEN), not far from Kabaty metro station.
I was drawn in by its intriguing name, the pumpkin decorations outside and the autumn menu, which included pumpkin cake, cinnamon rolls, warming ginger and cranberry tea and, above all, a chestnut latte with forest berries. I also noticed customers coming in with their dogs, which gave me a good first impression of the place.
Kosmos is not only a café but also a patisserie and ice cream parlour. The selection includes cakes, celebration cakes, chocolates, macarons, artisan ice cream and sorbets. There are savoury options too, including tarts and quiches, as well as traditional coffees alongside more unusual flavoured options. I was particularly interested in the seasonal autumn offerings.
The cakes in the refrigerated display counter looked appetising. Naturally, I chose the pumpkin cake. It cost less than 20 zł a slice and tasted good. I also enjoyed the coffee – a chestnut latte with forest berries, topped with milk foam and a dusting of cinnamon. It had an interesting flavour, although I found it too sweet for my taste.
I liked the interior of Kosmos too. It struck me as a combination of retro style and a contemporary mural. I particularly liked the choice of colours: pastel pink and navy blue (after all, the café’s name naturally brings the latter to mind). The wall slats, upholstered seating and corduroy cushions are all in pastel pink, creating a cosy contrast with the navy-blue wall bearing the word KOSMOS. The black-and-white floor tiles have a geometric pattern, while the furniture is black and the tabletops have a black marble-effect finish with gold veining. Of course, I also had a look at the loo, where the décor follows the same overall design. The floor has the same tiles, while parts of the walls are covered with narrow, textured tiles in pastel pink. Arranged vertically, they create a striped effect, finished with a black border. The fittings and accessories are black too. In my opinion, the overall interior is elegant yet cosy.
I can’t say much about the drawbacks of Kosmos, as I haven’t come across any yet. I’ll remember this café as a good place to meet friends for coffee, especially those who have dogs.
